CURRICULUM VITAE

Research Interests

Professor Jokerst’s current research focuses on hybrid optoelectronic integration and packaging of compound semiconductor devices with optical and electronic host substrates. Bonding of III-V, IV, and II-VI compound semiconductor material and devices (such as GaAs, InP, Si, and GaN-based materials) onto host substrates such as Si, GaAs, polymers, and glass has been demonstrated by Dr. Jokerst’s group at Georgia Tech. The technique developed by her group uses selective etching to separate thin film, single crystal devices (either electrical or optical) from their growth substrate with subsequent transfer and bonding of the devices onto a host substrate. A subset of current projects utilizing this technology include embedded optoelectronic interconnections in high density interconnection substrates, alignment tolerant optoelectronic links for micro to long haul interconnections, three dimensional electrical and optical integration of Si circuits for massively parallel processing and interconnect, new integrated emitter, detector, transmitter, and receiver designs, and alignment tolerant optoelectronic free space, substrate, and fiber optic interconnect. Her research management approach is oriented toward team-oriented, multidisciplinary, collaborative research with other faculty in materials, analog circuits, high frequency devices and circuits, and digital circuits and architectures.

Biographical Information

Nan Marie Jokerst is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. She received her BS in Physics and Mathematics from Creighton University in 1982, and her MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1984 and 1989, respectively. She is an active member of the IEEE and the Optical Society of America. She has served as the Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chair, and Chair of the Atlanta IEEE Section, as Chair of the OSA Engineering Council, and as an elected member of the IEEE LEOS Board of Governors, and as the VP for Conferences. She has served on numerous program committees for OSA and IEEE LEOS. She has over 150 refereed publications and presentations, and three patents.
