Dr. Wei-Chuan Shih

Wei-Chuan Shih is an Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering with a joint appointment in Biomedical Engineering at University of Houston. He obtained BS from National Taiwan University, MS from National Chiao Tung University, and Ph.D from Massachusetts Institute of Technology under late Professor Michael Feld. He worked in Schlumberger-Doll Research before his current position. He is a recipient of National Science Foundation CAREER Award (Biophotonics), and a recipient of NASA inaugural Early Career Faculty Award (Environmental monitoring). He is an awardee of Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative set up for the BP Deep Horizon oil spills. He was a MIT Martin Fellow for sustainability and lifetime member of Phi-Tau-Phi Scholastic Honor Society. His current research interests are in nanobiophotonics, plasmonics, hyperspectral microscopy and imaging, and N/MEMS. He is a member of OSA, IEEE, SPIE, SAS and ASME.
